Philippines boosts maternity benefits: How families stand to gain

## Enhanced Maternity Coverage

The Philippines has significantly increased maternity benefits to make childbirth safer and more affordable. This initiative, announced by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., aims to alleviate financial burdens on families by expanding support through the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).

## Increased Financial Support

Under the new plan, PhilHealth will cover a larger portion of childbirth expenses. For normal deliveries, coverage has risen from ₱9,750 to ₱29,000. Cesarean section benefits have also increased, now ranging from ₱58,000 to ₱62,000. These changes are expected to make hospital births more accessible, even in some private facilities.

## Comprehensive Prenatal and Postnatal Care

The expanded benefits also include enhanced prenatal and postnatal care. Prenatal check-ups have doubled from four to eight visits, now incorporating vaccines and laboratory tests. Post-delivery, mothers are entitled to three follow-up consultations to ensure their recovery and monitor their newborns' health.

## Commitment to Universal Healthcare

This initiative is part of the broader Universal Health Care Act, which seeks to provide essential health services to all Filipinos, particularly the most vulnerable. The government aims to eliminate financial barriers to healthcare, ensuring no life is endangered due to lack of funds.
