Fujairah joins UAE digital fisheries system to strengthen traceability

## Fujairah Embraces Digital Fisheries System

Fujairah has become part of the UAE's pioneering digital fisheries platform, aiming to enhance seafood traceability and transparency. This initiative is part of a broader national strategy to monitor fishing activities and verify the origins of seafood products.

## Key Agreement and Support

The agreement was formalized between Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi, co-founder of Seafood Souq, and Mahmood Hassan Al Ali, Chairman of the Fujairah Fishermen Coop. The signing was supported by the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, highlighting the importance of partnerships in the seafood sector.

## How the System Works

The SFS Fisheries platform, developed by Seafood Souq, uses mobile tools and digital logbooks for real-time monitoring. Each fishing vessel receives a QR code that links to verified data, ensuring full traceability from catch to sale. This system was initially launched in Sharjah and has shown promising results, tracking over 140,000 kilograms of seafood.

## Impact on the Seafood Market

With the UAE seafood market valued at approximately $1.49 billion, the demand for transparency is increasing. The digital traceability system is seen as crucial for future growth, offering improved validation and reduced errors in seafood sourcing.
