## New Criticism of Trump's Hormuz Strategy
US President Donald Trump faces fresh criticism over his handling of the Strait of Hormuz crisis, with a new label "NACHO"—"Not A Chance Hormuz Opens"—gaining traction. This term, coined by journalist Javier Blas, reflects skepticism about the US's ability to resolve the ongoing blockade that has disrupted oil flows and increased fuel prices.
Previously, Trump was labeled "TACO"—"Trump Always Chickens Out"—for his tendency to make aggressive threats that eventually soften, calming markets after initial turmoil.
## Timeline of the Hormuz Blockade
The crisis began in late February 2026, following US and Israeli strikes on Iran. In response, Iran restricted traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil passage. By mid-March, the US imposed a blockade on Iranian ports, further disrupting oil flows. This led to a sharp slowdown in shipping and a spike in oil prices by early April. Although a ceasefire was announced on April 17, restrictions and tensions remain.
## Iran's Defiant Stance
Iranian leaders have expressed strong opposition to US presence in the Gulf. Mojtaba Khamenei stated that the US has no rightful place in the region, envisioning a future Gulf free from American influence. Iran's parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing Iran's control over the Strait of Hormuz as a means to ensure a future without US interference.
