Slight relief for passengers as Philippines lowers fuel surcharge level

## Reduced Surcharge Levels

The Philippine Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) has announced a reduction in fuel surcharge levels for flights in early May, providing a slight decrease in travel costs for passengers. The surcharge will drop from level 19 to level 18, effective from May 1 to May 15.

## Impact on Ticket Prices

Under the new level 18, domestic flights will incur additional charges ranging from ₱593 to ₱1,734, depending on the distance. For international flights, the surcharge will range from ₱1,958.44 to ₱14,561.87. This adjustment is a reduction from the previous level 19, which had higher charges.

## Reason for Surcharge

Fuel surcharges are extra fees added by airlines to cover fluctuations in jet fuel prices, a significant operational cost. The CAB monitors and adjusts these surcharges every 15 days to align with global oil price changes.

## Temporary Measure

This reduction is an interim measure and will remain in effect until the situation stabilizes or further changes are made. While the decrease is modest, it offers some relief to travelers amid ongoing volatility in fuel markets.
