Kazakhstan’s digital push gains momentum with AI-led reforms and UAE partnership

## Year of Digitalisation and AI

In 2026, Kazakhstan is intensifying its digital transformation efforts, spearheaded by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Declaring this year as the "Year of Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence," Tokayev aims to transition the nation towards a knowledge-based economy. The focus is on leveraging advanced technologies to enhance decision-making, productivity, and public services.

## Strategic Initiatives

To support this digital agenda, Kazakhstan established the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development in September 2025. The country plans to become fully digital within three years. Key initiatives include expanding the Astana Hub and launching supercomputer clusters Alem.Cloud and Al-Farabium.

## UAE Partnership

A significant aspect of Kazakhstan's digital strategy is its collaboration with the UAE. Emirati investments in Kazakhstan more than doubled in early 2025. Both nations are exploring the creation of a GovTech Innovation Hub to develop digital solutions for public administration. This partnership builds on existing collaborations with UAE companies like Presight AI and AIQ in areas such as digital infrastructure and smart city projects.
