UP’s 6-lane, 120kmph Ganga Expressway set to redraw India’s growth map

## Introduction

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Ganga Expressway, a major infrastructure project in Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday. This 594-kilometer expressway is expected to significantly impact the state's economy and travel efficiency.

## Key Features

The expressway is designed for speeds up to 120 kmph and features six lanes, with the potential to expand to eight. It connects Meerut to Prayagraj, reducing travel time from 10-12 hours to approximately six hours.

## Economic Impact

Constructed at a cost of Rs36,230 crore, the expressway traverses 12 districts, linking western, central, and eastern Uttar Pradesh. It is anticipated to serve as a development corridor, fostering industrial growth and attracting investments. Nearly 1,000 investment proposals, worth around Rs47,000 crore, are already in the pipeline.

## Strategic Importance

A notable feature of the expressway is a 3.5-kilometer emergency airstrip in Shahjahanpur, capable of accommodating fighter jets, adding strategic value to the project.

## Bridging Economic Gaps

By connecting industrialized western regions with less-developed eastern areas, the expressway aims to bridge economic disparities and enhance access to key economic hubs, including the upcoming Noida International Airport.

## Conclusion

The Ganga Expressway is more than just a road; it is a catalyst for economic transformation in Uttar Pradesh, promising to reshape the region's industrial landscape and improve logistics and supply chains.
