The restrictions were part of broader efforts to manage the economic impact of the conflict, which saw Egypt's fuel import bill double to $2.5 billion early this year. The Egyptian pound has also depreciated, and inflation has risen.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has emphasized the need for a shift towards solar energy and has encouraged consumers to reduce electricity use. However, the easing of restrictions is seen as a timely decision, especially with the summer season approaching, offering businesses a chance to recover.
