## New Campaign Targets Hit-and-Run Offenses
Sharjah Police have launched a campaign to address the issue of motorists leaving the scene of accidents, even minor ones. The authorities emphasize that such actions are considered hit-and-run violations, which carry significant penalties.
## Consequences for Fleeing Accident Scenes
Motorists who fail to report minor collisions face a fine of Dh500 and receive eight black points on their driving record. Additionally, their vehicle may be impounded for seven days, with release fees potentially reaching Dh5,000.
## Importance of Reporting Accidents
The police aim to dispel the misconception that minor accidents in parking lots or residential areas do not require reporting. They stress that reporting incidents promptly can prevent legal complications and heavier penalties.
## Awareness Efforts
As part of the awareness campaign, Sharjah Police released a video demonstrating how minor accidents can escalate if not reported. Motorists are encouraged to stay at the scene, check on those involved, and report the incident through official channels, such as the police app or by calling 901 for non-emergencies.
