Abu Dhabi Judiciary introduces facial recognition to replace digital signatures

## New Technology in Legal Processes

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department has initiated a project to integrate facial recognition technology into its legal transaction processes. This marks the first instance in the region where such technology is being used as an alternative to digital signatures.

## Initial Implementation

The first phase of this initiative focuses on power of attorney procedures for lawyers. This allows approvals to be completed using smart devices, eliminating the need for traditional digital signatures. The system is designed to enhance security by encrypting biometric data and verifying it in real-time against official records.

## Strategic Vision

Yousef Saeed Al Abri, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, emphasized that this move aligns with the vision of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The aim is to modernize the justice system and improve digital government performance by simplifying customer interactions and reducing processing times.

## Future Expansion

Plans are in place to extend the use of facial recognition technology to notary and authentication services. This expansion is part of Abu Dhabi's strategy to lead in judicial innovation and integrated digital services.
