Sharjah pushes ahead with major Dh500m rainwater drainage project

## Project Overview

Sharjah is making significant progress on a major infrastructure project aimed at improving rainwater and groundwater drainage. Approved in 2024, the initiative is valued at Dh500 million and is being executed under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah.

## Implementation Details

The project, known as the 'Middle Line Project,' has reached advanced stages of implementation. It involves constructing a drainage line at depths between 13 and over 20 meters. Initially, the network will cover 22 areas, with plans to expand to 42 areas, including the Muwaileh district, by February 2027.

## Key Beneficiaries

Several major roads in Sharjah will benefit from this project, including King Abdulaziz Street, Al Wahda Road extension to Cultural Square, King Faisal Street, and the Corniche area. The total length of the drainage network is expected to be 16 kilometers, significantly enhancing stormwater management and reducing flood risks in the emirate.
