RTA launches new major road projects to ease Dubai traffic

## Infrastructure Overhaul

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has initiated a significant infrastructure project aimed at reducing traffic congestion and travel times across the city. The plan involves redeveloping key roads including Umm Suqeim Street, Al Wasl Road, and Al Safa Street, with the construction of 11 kilometers of bridges and tunnels.

## Enhancing Road Capacity

The project is designed to expand road capacity and improve traffic flow, accommodating Dubai's growing population and urban development. Upon completion, Umm Suqeim Street will handle up to 16,000 vehicles per hour, while Al Wasl and Al Safa Streets will support 12,000 vehicles per hour.

## Pedestrian and Aesthetic Improvements

In addition to traffic enhancements, the initiative will introduce pedestrian-friendly features such as walkways, cycling tracks, and landscaped urban spaces, aiming to create vibrant and accessible communities.

## Key Districts and Economic Impact

The development covers vital districts like Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Al Wasl, and Al Safa, serving over two million residents. It is expected to boost economic activity by improving traffic efficiency and reducing travel times, thus enhancing productivity and supporting various economic sectors.

## Specific Road Upgrades

- **Umm Suqeim Street**: The upgrade includes six intersections, four bridges, and two tunnels, reducing travel time between Jumeirah Street and Al Khail Road from 20 minutes to six minutes. - **Al Wasl Road**: A 15-kilometer transformation with lane expansions and seven upgraded intersections will halve journey times. - **Al Safa Street**: Enhancements over 1.5 kilometers will cut travel time from 12 minutes to three minutes.

## Broader Strategy

RTA's comprehensive plan aims to keep pace with urban expansion, improve daily mobility, and reinforce Dubai's global infrastructure leadership.
