Saudi Arabia deports 17,368 expats in crackdown on illegal residency

## Major Deportation Campaign

Saudi Arabia has deported 17,368 expatriates in a week-long operation targeting illegal residency, labor, and border violations. This initiative, led by the Ministry of Interior, involved intensified inspections across the country.

## Arrests and Violations

Between April 16 and April 22, authorities arrested 12,192 individuals. Among them, 6,606 were found violating residency laws, 3,510 breached border security, and 2,076 committed labor-related offenses. Additionally, 1,454 people were intercepted while attempting to enter the country illegally, with most being Ethiopian nationals.

## Legal Consequences

The campaign also saw the arrest of 22 individuals accused of facilitating illegal activities by providing transport, shelter, or employment. Those aiding illegal entry or stay face severe penalties, including up to 15 years in prison and fines reaching SR1 million.

## Ongoing Legal Procedures

More than 33,000 expatriates are still undergoing legal procedures. Over 20,000 have been referred to their respective diplomatic missions to arrange travel documents, while others are in the process of completing departure arrangements.
