## Global Variation in Fasting Hours
Muslims worldwide are preparing for Ramadan 2026, with expectations of slightly reduced fasting hours compared to the previous year. The duration of fasting varies significantly across different regions due to geographical and latitudinal differences affecting sunrise and sunset times.
## Regional Differences
In the UAE, the first day of fasting is projected to last approximately 12 hours and 46 minutes, which is about 30 minutes shorter than last year. As Ramadan progresses, the fasting duration will gradually increase. In contrast, northern regions like parts of Russia, Greenland, and Iceland will experience some of the longest fasting periods due to extended daylight hours.
Countries such as Norway, Sweden, and Finland may see daily fasting exceeding 16 hours, while some areas in Canada could approach 20 hours. Meanwhile, nations closer to the equator or in the southern hemisphere, including Brazil, Argentina, and South Africa, will have shorter fasting hours, typically ranging from 11 to 13 hours.
## Stable Fasting Hours in Tropical Regions
Tropical countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, and Kenya are expected to maintain relatively stable fasting hours between 12 and 14 hours. These variations highlight the diverse experiences of Muslims observing Ramadan across the globe.
