## Incident Overview
The Philippine government has confirmed the safety of 15 Filipino seafarers following an incident in the Strait of Hormuz. The seafarers were aboard two container ships, Epaminondas and MSC Francesca, which were intercepted by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on April 22, 2026.
## Crew Safety Assured
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported that all crew members are unharmed. Ten Filipinos were on the Epaminondas, while five were on the MSC Francesca. The DMW is in close contact with the seafarers' families, the manning agency, and shipowners to provide ongoing support.
## Family Notifications and Support
Authorities have informed the families of the seafarers about their safety. The DMW is taking necessary measures to ensure their protection and is coordinating with relevant stakeholders.
## Regional Tensions
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical maritime route, and recent months have seen increased security concerns. The interception of vessels has heightened tensions in the region, affecting international shipping traffic.
## Government Response
The Philippine government, under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., is prioritizing the safety of overseas Filipino workers. The DMW continues to coordinate with all parties involved to ensure the well-being of the seafarers.
