The UAE has issued a health advisory for pilgrims planning to attend Hajj in 2026, emphasizing the importance of receiving mandatory vaccinations at least 10 days before departure. The Emirates Health Services (EHS) highlights that early vaccination is crucial to allow the body sufficient time to develop immunity, especially given the large gatherings and physically demanding nature of the pilgrimage.
## Mandatory and Recommended Vaccines
The health guide specifies that meningococcal and seasonal influenza vaccines are mandatory for this year's pilgrims. Additionally, pneumococcal vaccines are recommended for certain groups based on age and health conditions. While the Covid-19 vaccine is optional, it is advised as a preventive measure.
## Health and Fitness Preparations
Beyond vaccinations, the EHS advises pilgrims to consult a doctor at least a month before traveling to ensure their health is stable and to assess any potential risks. Physical preparation is also crucial, as Hajj involves extensive walking and standing.
