Dubai Police brings back Ramadan cannon tradition

## Tradition Returns Across Dubai

Dubai Police have reinstated the traditional firing of Ramadan cannons to mark the sighting of the crescent moon and the daily iftar time. This custom, which has been part of Emirati culture for over 60 years, will see cannons positioned at seven key locations, including Nazwa, Jumeirah Beach Residence, and Burj Khalifa.

## Mobile Cannon Tour

In addition to the stationary cannons, a mobile cannon will travel to 17 different sites throughout the emirate during Ramadan. Starting at Dubai Gardens, it will visit places such as One&Only One Za’abeel, Umm Suqeim Majlis, and Atlantis Hotel.

## Community Engagement

The firing of the cannons is a cherished tradition that brings families and communities together, enhancing the spirit of Ramadan. Each cannon will fire 35 rounds during the month, including two rounds to confirm the crescent sighting and daily rounds at sunset for iftar.

## Preserving Heritage

Dubai Police, in collaboration with moon-sighting authorities, ensure this tradition continues, modernizing it to fit contemporary settings while maintaining its cultural significance. The initiative not only revives Arab and Islamic customs but also strengthens community bonds during the holy month.
