UAE unveils first fully AI-discovered cancer drug candidate

## AI Breakthrough in Drug Discovery

The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) in collaboration with Insilico Medicine has announced the UAE's first fully AI-discovered cancer drug candidate. This marks a significant shift in the UAE's pharmaceutical landscape, moving from technology adoption to innovation.

## Targeting Aggressive Brain Cancers

The drug candidate, named ISM0387, is designed to inhibit the PRMT5 enzyme, targeting tumors linked to MTAP gene deletion. It shows promise in treating aggressive brain cancers by selectively attacking cancer cells while sparing healthy ones. Preclinical trials have demonstrated its ability to penetrate the blood-brain barrier and effectively suppress tumor growth.

## Accelerated Development Process

Using Insilico Medicine’s Chemistry42 platform, the drug discovery process was completed in under a year, a significant reduction from the typical multi-year timeline. The AI-driven approach generated and tested over 90 potential molecules, highlighting the efficiency of AI in drug development.

## National and Global Implications

This achievement underscores the UAE's growing capabilities in pharmaceutical innovation, supported by a robust national ecosystem and strategic partnerships. The development of ISM0387 not only enhances the UAE's position in global biotech but also paves the way for more precise and effective treatments in the future.
