## Changes to Qualifying and Overtaking
Formula 1 has announced adjustments to its rules aimed at enhancing the excitement of qualifying sessions and improving safety during overtaking. These changes will be implemented starting from the Miami Grand Prix on May 3.
## Energy and Power Adjustments
The modifications include a reduction in energy harvesting from eight megajoules to seven, while the hybrid power unit output will increase from 250kw to 350kw. These changes are intended to encourage drivers to maintain a consistent pace throughout qualifying laps.
## Boost Button Limitations
The boost button, which has been a point of concern due to its impact on speed differentials, will now be capped at 150kw. This adjustment aims to balance performance while ensuring safer overtaking opportunities.
## Safety Measures
Additional safety measures are being introduced, particularly for wet-weather conditions. These include trials of new systems to reduce crash risks on the starting grid, such as a boost for slower-starting cars and visual warnings.
## Reactions and Expectations
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff emphasized the importance of making thoughtful changes to enhance racing without compromising safety. The changes come after criticism from drivers, including Max Verstappen, who expressed dissatisfaction with the current regulations. Fans and teams are hopeful that these updates will lead to more thrilling races.
