## Court Ruling on Forged Cheques
The Abu Dhabi Commercial Court of First Instance has mandated a man to repay Dh486,124 to a bank after he cashed nine forged cheques. The court determined that these funds were acquired without legal justification.
## Compensation and Interest
In addition to the repayment, the court ordered the defendant to pay Dh30,000 in compensation. The bank's payment of the forged cheques was deemed an undue payment, leading to unjust enrichment for the defendant. The court also imposed a 3% annual interest on the repayment until the full amount is settled, along with legal costs.
## Case Details
The bank initially sought over Dh516,000, including compensation for financial and moral damages. A court-appointed expert verified that 10 cheques were forged, with nine being cashed over a year, totaling Dh486,124. One cheque was excluded as it had not been cashed.
## Defendant's Claims Rejected
The defendant claimed ignorance of the forgery and attempted to involve another party in the case. However, the court dismissed these claims, highlighting that he was the direct beneficiary of the funds. The ruling emphasized that forged cheques lose their legal validity, allowing the bank to reclaim the paid amounts.
