## Project Expansion The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) is broadening its desert vegetation classification project to include more areas within the emirate. This initiative is part of EAD's ongoing efforts to enhance the sustainability of natural resources and improve environmental monitoring.
## Advanced Technology Utilization The project employs artificial intelligence and drones to precisely analyze and classify vegetation cover. By integrating spectral signatures with scientific indicators, experts can monitor changes in natural habitats and understand ecosystem responses to factors like grazing and climate change. This approach provides accurate data to support environmental planning and decision-making.
## Long-term Monitoring EAD's expansion builds on its long-term efforts to monitor vegetation cover, assessing the impact of climate change and human activities such as overgrazing and off-road vehicle use. These activities affect habitat sustainability, and the project aims to address these challenges.
## Efficiency and Cost Reduction The use of modern technologies has significantly improved fieldwork efficiency, reducing the environmental impact of surveys and cutting operational and administrative costs by 90%. This has also decreased the time required to complete studies compared to traditional methods.
## Comprehensive Data Collection Specialized teams have used AI and drones to survey large terrestrial habitats, collecting detailed data on native plant species. This data helps assess vegetation health and identify influencing factors, whether natural or human-induced.
## Digital Transformation EAD has developed a geospatial database platform for real-time reporting and analysis, enhancing environmental data management. The agency has also tested drones for dispersing native plant seeds, studying natural regeneration rates based on rainfall and soil quality.
