Sharjah Ruler halts Kalba project to protect turtles, rejects hotel plan

## Environmental Protection Measures

Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah, has intervened to prevent the closure of a local tourism boat project in Kalba. The decision was made to protect the area's rare turtle population from harm caused by traditional boat propellers. Instead, Sheikh Sultan has mandated the use of eco-friendly boats that do not endanger marine life.

## Support for Local Initiatives

The Ruler assured the project owner of continued support, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the environment. He mentioned that if necessary, special boats would be manufactured to ensure safe navigation through Kalba's natural habitats.

## Conservation and Development

In addition to protecting the turtles, Sheikh Sultan announced enhancements to Kalba's landscape, including clearing rocky areas and improving the corniche's visual appeal. These efforts aim to balance conservation with sustainable tourism development.

## Rejection of Hotel Proposal

Sheikh Sultan also rejected a proposal to build a large hotel on Kalba beach, citing the need to protect the turtles that inhabit the area. He emphasized that development should not disrupt natural habitats.

## Upcoming Projects

The Ruler revealed that the "Above the Clouds Rest House" is nearing completion, with an expected opening by the end of this year or early next year. This project is part of ongoing efforts to enhance Sharjah's appeal while respecting its natural environment.
