## US-Iran Ceasefire Under Strain
The United States has announced plans to blockade Iranian ports starting Monday, despite a temporary ceasefire with Iran. This move comes after unsuccessful negotiations in Islamabad aimed at stabilizing the situation. The ceasefire, which was intended to last two weeks, remains fragile as tensions escalate.
## Strait of Hormuz Traffic Halted
Following the US announcement, all maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has ceased. This strategic waterway is crucial for global oil shipments, and its closure has significant implications for international trade and energy markets.
## Oil Prices Surge
In response to the halted traffic and increased tensions, oil prices have surged. West Texas Intermediate crude reached $104.8 per barrel, marking a significant increase. Similarly, Brent crude prices have also risen sharply, reflecting market concerns over potential supply disruptions.
## Diplomatic Efforts Falter
Efforts to reach a diplomatic resolution have so far been unsuccessful. Iran claimed it was close to an agreement with the US during talks in Islamabad, but no deal was finalized. The US continues to demand that Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key point of contention in the negotiations.
## Regional Reactions
The situation has prompted reactions from neighboring countries. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam is working to de-escalate tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has indicated that military operations in southern Lebanon will continue.
