## Rise in Online Begging
Dubai Police have issued a warning to residents about an increase in online begging scams during Ramadan. Authorities are urging the public to be cautious and avoid responding to suspicious donation requests on websites and social media.
## Legal Consequences
The Anti-Cybercrime Department has highlighted that online begging is illegal under Federal Decree Law No. 34 of 2021. Those caught soliciting money through digital means could face up to three months in jail or a fine of at least Dh10,000.
## Official Channels for Donations
Police emphasize that donations should only be made through officially licensed charitable organizations in the UAE to ensure funds reach legitimate beneficiaries.
## Reporting Suspicious Activity
Residents are encouraged to report any suspected scams by calling 901, using the Police Eye service on the Dubai Police app, or through the eCrime platform.
## "Combat Begging" Campaign
This warning is part of the "Combat Begging" campaign, which aims to raise awareness and promote safe charitable giving during Ramadan. The initiative involves cooperation with various government departments to maintain the UAE's civilised image and enhance community responsibility.
