How a Dubai athlete is turning a 100km run into a fight against autoimmune diseases

## A Personal Challenge for a Greater Cause

Nikola Aleksic, a Dubai-based athlete, is set to embark on a 100-kilometer run on May 24, coinciding with his birthday. This endurance challenge aims to raise awareness and support for autoimmune diseases, a cause close to Aleksic's heart due to his own battle with Behcet’s disease.

## Battling Behcet’s Disease

Aleksic has been living with Behcet’s disease, which causes symptoms like painful sores and inflammation. Despite these challenges, he has continued to compete in kickboxing, managing his condition through lifestyle changes rather than long-term medication.

## Training for the 100km Run

Although Aleksic has never completed a full marathon, he trains rigorously, focusing on long-distance running, strength training, and nutrition. His goal is to support the Al Jalila Foundation in advancing research on autoimmune diseases.

## Inspiring Others

At 30, Aleksic sees this run as the beginning of a larger mission. He hopes to inspire others facing similar health challenges and encourage everyone to appreciate their health and contribute to meaningful causes.
