ADB launches new trust fund to accelerate progress on ASEAN power grid

## New Fund for Energy Infrastructure

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has introduced a new multi-partner fund aimed at enhancing energy and transmission infrastructure across Southeast Asia. This initiative, known as the Regional Connectivity Fund for Energy in Southeast Asia (RCF), is the first of its kind in the region and is designed to support the ASEAN Power Grid project.

## Aiming for Integrated Electricity by 2045

The ASEAN Power Grid is a significant endeavor to establish a fully integrated electricity network by 2045, benefiting approximately 700 million people. ADB President Masato Kanda highlighted the potential of this grid to ensure energy security and drive regional growth.

## Initial Funding and Management

The RCF has secured initial funding of around $25 million, contributed by Australia, Canada, the European Union, Germany, and the United Kingdom. The fund will be managed by ADB in collaboration with the ASEAN Infrastructure Fund Board and ASEAN member states.

## Supporting Project Preparation

The RCF will provide technical assistance and project readiness financing grants. These resources will support feasibility studies, engineering design, financial structuring, and regulatory improvements. The goal is to ensure projects are well-prepared and aligned with regional priorities.

## Meeting Future Energy Demands

With energy demand in Southeast Asia expected to triple by 2050, the ASEAN Power Grid aims to provide reliable and affordable power, including renewable sources like solar, wind, and hydropower. ADB has committed up to $10 billion over the next decade to support these efforts.
