World Health Day: UAE universities take lead in early detection, AI tools and cancer research

## Early Detection of Alzheimer's

Researchers at Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) have developed an AI system, MAGNET-AD, capable of predicting Alzheimer's disease up to 20 years before symptoms appear. This system, alongside ClinGRAD, which analyzes scans and genetic data, offers nearly 99% accuracy in classifying dementia types. Such advancements could significantly impact global dementia care, with cases expected to reach 152 million by 2050.

## Eye Scans for Health Insights

MBZUAI researchers have also discovered that retinal imaging can detect early signs of diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and Alzheimer's. This non-invasive method could be crucial in early intervention, especially in regions with high diabetes rates.

## AI-Powered Healthcare Communication

The AI Arabic Doctor project by MBZUAI is enhancing healthcare access through a multilingual medical assistant. This tool provides health information in Arabic, English, and Hindi, and is accessible via mobile apps, aiming to serve underserved communities.

## Advancements in Prenatal Care

MBZUAI's FetalCLIP system, trained on a vast dataset of ultrasound images, detects fetal heart defects with high accuracy. This technology is designed to improve prenatal care, especially in low-resource settings.

## Digital Simulation for Drug Discovery

MBZUAI is working on an AI-driven digital organism to simulate human biology. This project aims to accelerate drug discovery by modeling gene and protein interactions, potentially making the process faster and safer.

## Cancer Detection and Treatment

At NYU Abu Dhabi, researchers have developed smart molecules that can detect and treat cancer simultaneously. These molecules activate in tumors, making them visible on MRI scans and targeting cancer cells, offering new treatment possibilities for aggressive brain cancers.
