## Senators Demand Answers
A group of Democratic senators is pressing the Trump administration for clarity regarding a strike on an Iranian elementary school that resulted in over 165 fatalities, many of whom were children. The senators have directed their inquiries to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, questioning the potential involvement of the United States in the incident and the measures taken to prevent civilian casualties.
## Investigation Underway
The Pentagon is currently investigating the strike, which occurred at Shajareh Tayyebeh Elementary School in Minab, Iran, on February 28, 2026. Initial reports from the New York Times suggest that the U.S. might be responsible. President Trump initially blamed Iran but later stated he would accept the Pentagon's findings.
## Concerns Over Civilian Protection
The incident has sparked concerns about the Pentagon's commitment to minimizing civilian harm, especially after budget cuts to the Civilian Protection Center of Excellence. This center was established to reduce civilian casualties, but its resources have been significantly reduced under the current administration.
## Evidence of US Involvement
Satellite imagery and expert analysis indicate that the strike might have been avoidable. The school, clearly marked and visible from the air, was mistakenly targeted. New footage shows a US-made missile hitting the area, further implicating U.S. involvement.
## Political Repercussions
If confirmed, U.S. responsibility for the strike could undermine public support for military actions against Iran. Both Democratic and Republican senators are calling for a thorough investigation to determine accountability and prevent future incidents.
