UAE calls on residents to sight Ramadan crescent moon on February 17

## Moon Sighting Initiative

The UAE Council for Fatwa has called on residents to observe the Ramadan crescent moon on February 17, 2026. The Crescent Moonsighting Committee will meet at 6pm at Qasr Al Hosn in Abu Dhabi to confirm the sighting.

## Committee Proceedings

Sheikh Abdullah bin Sheikh Al Mahfouz bin Bayyah, the Council's Chairman, will lead the meeting, with Vice-Chairman Dr. Omar Habtoor Al Darei also in attendance. The committee will review reports from observatories and public testimonies following the Maghrib prayer.

## Community Involvement

The Council encourages public participation in this traditional practice by submitting moon sighting reports through an online portal. This initiative aims to unify the official lunar calendar reference in the UAE.

## Official Announcement

Once the committee concludes its review, an official statement regarding the start of Ramadan will be released through authorized channels.
