Dubai opens new tunnel to ease Deira traffic jams

## New Tunnel Opens in Dubai

Dubai has inaugurated the Al Khaleej Street Tunnel, a significant development aimed at reducing traffic congestion in the Deira area. The tunnel, which stretches 1.65 kilometers, is part of the broader Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project.

## Enhanced Traffic Flow

The newly opened tunnel features six lanes, with three lanes in each direction, and can accommodate up to 12,000 vehicles per hour. This development is expected to significantly ease traffic flow between key areas such as Infinity Bridge, Deira, and Al Mamzar.

## Part of a Larger Project

The tunnel is a component of the Al Shindagha Corridor, a 13-kilometer stretch that includes major roads like Sheikh Rashid Road and Al Mina Street. Once fully completed, the project aims to reduce travel times dramatically by 2030.

## Benefits for Residents and Tourists

The project is set to improve connectivity for approximately one million residents and visitors, enhancing access to popular destinations such as Dubai Islands and Dubai Maritime City. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has also planned improvements at 15 intersections along the corridor.

## Artistic and Sustainable Features

In addition to traffic improvements, the tunnel will feature a large-scale mural by Emirati artist Maryam Al Hathboor, showcasing Dubai's skyline. Sustainability was a key focus during construction, with 77% of excavated materials being reused.

## Future Developments

Further developments include a new bridge connecting Dubai Islands to Bur Dubai, expected to enhance connectivity across the city. This bridge will feature lanes for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists, further integrating Dubai's transport network.
