## Trackless Tram Initiative
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is introducing a trackless tram system to enhance the city's public transport. This innovative tram operates without fixed tracks, using optical navigation and AI to follow virtual routes. It promises a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to traditional rail systems, with plans to deploy it across eight locations.
## Expansion of Bus and Taxi Lanes
In addition to the trackless tram, RTA is expanding dedicated bus and taxi lanes by adding six new corridors, increasing the total network to 20 kilometers. This expansion aims to reduce bus travel times by 41% and improve punctuality by 42%, encouraging more people to use public transport.
## Vision for Public Transport
Mattar Al Tayer, RTA's Director General, emphasized the goal of making public transport the primary choice for mobility in Dubai. By improving service quality and integrating various transport modes, the city aims to create a flexible and efficient system that supports its growth and enhances residents' quality of life.
## Growing Public Transport Usage
Dubai's public transport system saw significant usage in 2025, with 802 million riders, marking a 7.4% increase from the previous year. The introduction of the trackless tram and new lanes is expected to further boost ridership and contribute to a seamless transport ecosystem.
