## New Rental Scam Alert
Dubai Police have issued a warning to residents about a new online rental scam targeting those seeking accommodation. Fraudsters are posting fake rental ads on social media and online platforms, offering properties at prices significantly below market rates.
## How the Scam Works
Scammers exploit the urgent need for affordable housing by advertising properties in prime locations at low rents. Once potential victims express interest, they are asked to transfer upfront payments, such as booking deposits or documentation fees, before viewing the property or signing any contracts.
## Tactics Used by Scammers
These fraudsters often use photos from legitimate property listings or advertise units they do not own. In some cases, they impersonate landlords or claim to represent fake real estate agencies, even providing forged contracts to appear credible.
## Police Advice
Dubai Police urge residents to remain cautious and only deal with authorized entities and verified property owners. They encourage the public to report any suspected scams through the Dubai Police smart app, the e-Crime platform, or by calling 901.
