In Abu Dhabi, a domestic worker has been ordered to pay Dh10,000 in compensation to a mother after being found guilty of assaulting her three-year-old child. The incident left the child with scratches on his chest and beneath his jaw. The ruling was made by the Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Court following a criminal conviction where the worker received a suspended one-month prison sentence and a Dh3,000 fine.

## Defense and Court's Decision

The worker, who was employed as a driver, argued that childcare was not part of her responsibilities and claimed the accusation stemmed from a dispute over unpaid wages. However, the court dismissed her defense, citing a final criminal judgment that confirmed the assault. The court emphasized that this judgment could not be contested in the civil compensation proceedings.

## Compensation Details

The mother initially sought Dh25,000 for material and emotional damages, along with interest and legal costs. The court awarded her Dh10,000, with an additional 4% interest from the date the judgment becomes final, ensuring the interest does not exceed the compensation amount. The worker was also required to cover court fees and costs.
