Venezuela has lifted restrictions on several news websites that had been censored for years. This move comes as political transition discussions, supported by the US, resume in Caracas. The country's telecom authority, CONATEL, announced the restoration of access to various digital platforms.

Under former president Nicolas Maduro, hundreds of websites were blocked. Maduro was captured by US forces in January, leading to Delcy Rodriguez becoming the interim leader. The unblocking decision coincides with the second round of talks in Caracas, focusing on freedom of expression.

Digital rights group Venezuela Sin Filtro confirmed that 17 news sites are now accessible through multiple internet providers. However, 188 websites, including 79 news outlets, remain blocked. Journalists and NGOs have long campaigned against the censorship imposed by Maduro's administration.

## Official Statements and Skepticism

Deputy communications minister Gustavo Villapol stated that the decision aims to end societal polarization. Luis Ernesto Blanco, from the previously blocked site Runrunes, viewed the move as an acknowledgment of past suppression of public debate.

Despite the progress, skepticism remains. Victor Amaya, from the online outlet TalCual, expressed doubts about the full restoration of access to all censored sites. He noted that TalCual had suffered significant traffic and revenue losses due to the block.

## Ongoing Challenges

While some sites like NTN24 have reported restored access, they also experience intermittent availability. The head of the opposition delegation, Dinorah Figuera, described the unblocking as a "first step" and emphasized the need for full and permanent access to all outlets.
