Dubai launches SARAAB, open-source AI designed to detect deepfake videos

## Introduction of SARAAB

Dubai has introduced SARAAB, an open-source artificial intelligence model aimed at detecting deepfake videos. This initiative was launched by the Dubai Electronic Security Centre (DESC) during the GISEC Global 2026 event.

## Development and Purpose

SARAAB is the first AI model of its kind developed by a government entity in the Arab region. Created by an Emirati team, it is designed to address the growing threat of AI-generated video manipulations. The model will be accessible on developer platforms, enabling AI engineers and cybersecurity experts to test and enhance its capabilities.

## Additional Cybersecurity Initiatives

Alongside SARAAB, DESC introduced two other cybersecurity initiatives. The Dubai Cyber Skills Framework aims to standardize qualifications and training for cybersecurity professionals. Additionally, the ISR Auditor Certification Programme will train auditors to assess compliance with Dubai's Information Security Regulation.

## Official Statement

Yousuf Hamad Al Shaibani, DESC's Chief Executive, emphasized that these initiatives are part of Dubai's strategy to develop local cybersecurity solutions with global impact. The initiatives are being showcased at the GISEC Global 2026, held from September 16 to 18 at the Dubai Exhibition Centre.
