Masdar plans bigger Azerbaijan solar project, battery storage and 24-hour clean power

## Expansion of Garadagh Solar Project

Masdar, the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, is set to enhance its renewable energy initiatives in Azerbaijan. The company plans to expand the Garadagh Solar PV project by at least 350MW. This expansion aims to boost the project's current capacity of 230MW, which was inaugurated in 2023. The Garadagh project currently produces around 500 million kilowatt-hours annually, sufficient to power over 110,000 homes.

## Battery Storage and 24/7 Power

In addition to the solar expansion, Masdar is introducing a battery energy storage system with a capacity of up to 200MWh. This system will enhance the flexibility and reliability of renewable energy supply. Furthermore, Masdar is exploring a 100MW round-the-clock renewable energy project in Nakhchivan, leveraging its experience from a similar project in Abu Dhabi.

## Financial Close for Neftchala Solar Project

Masdar, in collaboration with SOCAR Green and Azerbaijan's Ministry of Energy, has achieved financial close for the 315MW Neftchala Solar PV project. This project is expected to generate over 686 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, powering approximately 140,000 homes and reducing carbon emissions by about 280,000 tonnes each year.

## Broader Renewable Energy Goals

Masdar's ongoing projects in Azerbaijan, including the 445MW Bilasuvar solar and the 240MW Absheron-Garadagh wind projects, contribute to a total renewable energy capacity exceeding 1.2GW in the country. These developments align with Masdar's commitment to supporting Azerbaijan's growing energy needs with sustainable solutions.
