## Tharanga's Triumph in Budapest

Sri Lankan athlete Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage achieved a significant milestone by winning the men's javelin throw at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship 2026 in Budapest. The 23-year-old secured the title with an impressive throw of 91.09 meters.

## Competition Highlights

Tharanga's victory was marked by a strong performance, particularly in the latter rounds. Initially, he started with a throw of 75.89 meters, which placed him behind Germany's Julian Weber and Grenada's Anderson Peters. However, Tharanga improved his performance in subsequent rounds, eventually taking the lead with a throw of 87.11 meters in the third round.

In the decisive fourth round, Tharanga delivered his best throw of 91.09 meters, ensuring his top position. Anderson Peters, a two-time world champion, finished second with a throw of 86.18 meters, while Julian Weber claimed the bronze with 85.89 meters.

## Other Competitors

The competition also featured notable athletes such as Trinidad and Tobago's Keshorn Walcott, who finished fourth, and Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, who secured fifth place. India's Neeraj Chopra did not participate in the event.
