## Farewell to King Oyo

Thousands gathered in Uganda to bid farewell to King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who was recognized as the world's youngest monarch. He became king at just three years old and led the Tooro Kingdom for 31 years. King Oyo passed away at 34 while undergoing cancer treatment in the United States.

## Succession Controversy

The king's death has sparked a heated succession battle. A committee from the Babiito royal clan named Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma as the new king. However, this decision is contested by Princess Ruth Komuntale, the late king's sister, who claims a will exists naming a biological son as heir. This alleged son was unknown to many in the Tooro elite and was not included in the succession vote.

## Calls for Unity

During the burial ceremony, President Yoweri Museveni called for unity and peaceful resolution of the succession issue. He emphasized the importance of maintaining harmony within the Batoro community. The Babiito clan, responsible for royal matters, defended their decision, stressing adherence to cultural traditions.

## Cultural Significance

Though Uganda is a republic, it officially recognizes four traditional kingdoms, including Tooro, which primarily serve cultural roles with limited political influence.
