## Uneven Adaptation
'Haiwaan', starring Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar, is a glossy remake of the South Indian thriller 'Oppam'. Directed by Priyadarshan, the film attempts to capture the essence of the original but falls short in its execution. Saif Ali Khan plays a blind caretaker, a role originally portrayed by Mohanlal, and Akshay Kumar takes on the villainous role.
## Character and Plot Issues
The film struggles with character consistency, particularly with Saif's portrayal. His character, a martial arts trainer and musician, often feels out of place with his luxurious wardrobe and lifestyle, which detracts from the authenticity of his role. The film's first half is slow, taking too long to establish its thriller elements, while the second half picks up pace with Akshay Kumar's menacing performance.
## Comic Relief and Action
Comic elements, primarily delivered by Rajpal Yadav, provide some relief but sometimes feel forced. The film tries to balance humor, action, and emotional depth, but the shifts in tone can be jarring. The action sequences, however, are well-executed and add much-needed energy to the film.
## Supporting Cast and Conclusion
Supporting characters, including Shriya Pilgaonkar and Saiyami Kher, are underdeveloped, and even Akshay Kumar's character lacks emotional depth. Despite these shortcomings, the film offers moments of entertainment, especially for those familiar with 'Oppam'. The climax provides a nod to the original, offering a satisfying conclusion for fans.
Overall, 'Haiwaan' is a mixed bag, with potential that is not fully realized. While it has its moments, it ultimately lacks the raw intensity and emotional impact of 'Oppam'.
