## UAE Joins BRICS as Full Member

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has become a full member of the BRICS group, participating in the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12-13, 2026. This membership, effective since January 2024, aligns with the UAE's strategy to expand its economic partnerships and strengthen its global trade presence.

## Economic Impact and Trade Growth

BRICS, comprising countries that represent nearly half of the world's population and a significant portion of global GDP and trade, offers the UAE a platform to enhance its economic influence. In 2025, the UAE's non-oil trade with BRICS nations reached $312 billion, a 28.5% increase from the previous year. BRICS countries accounted for a substantial share of the UAE's non-oil foreign trade, imports, exports, and re-exports.

## Key Partnerships and Agreements

China and India are the UAE's top trading partners within BRICS. Trade with China hit $111.5 billion in 2025, marking a 24.5% rise, while trade with India was bolstered by the UAE-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). The UAE also strengthened ties with Russia through a Trade in Services and Investment Agreement, and with Brazil, bilateral trade exceeded $5.4 billion.

## Strategic Logistics and Investment Opportunities

The UAE's strategic location and advanced infrastructure enhance its role as a logistics hub for BRICS, facilitating trade flows and developing multimodal corridors. This membership also opens avenues for increased foreign direct investment in sectors like mining, transport, and clean energy, aligning with the UAE's economic diversification goals.

## Broader Economic and Financial Participation

The UAE's inclusion in BRICS supports balanced economic relations and sustainable growth, enhancing its presence in emerging markets. It also allows the UAE to participate more broadly in the group's economic and financial initiatives, further solidifying its role as a global trade and investment hub.
