28 Dubai Police sites go solar, cutting 26,000 tonnes of carbon emissions a year

## Solar Transition for Dubai Police

Dubai Police has successfully completed the initial phase of a solar energy initiative, transforming 28 of its sites to reduce carbon emissions by 26,000 tonnes annually. This reduction accounts for 20% of the total emissions from police buildings.

## Strategic Implementation

The project, part of a 25-year strategy, began during COP28 in 2023. It aims to progressively integrate solar solutions across all police facilities. The first phase included police stations and other departmental buildings, with each site receiving tailored upgrades based on its specific requirements.

## Broader Vision

Engineer Maryam Rashid Bonfour, leading the Energy Efficiency Projects Portfolio, emphasized that the initiative is not just about installing solar panels. It is part of a larger effort to enhance building efficiency, optimize resource use, and support Dubai's clean energy and carbon reduction goals.

## Future Plans

The next phase is set to begin in late 2026, expanding solar solutions to more facilities. This aligns with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, aiming to halve carbon emissions by 2030. Dubai Police's commitment to sustainability is further highlighted by their participation in the United Nations Global Compact, focusing on environmental responsibility.
