MBZUAI has launched a 25-year study to predict disease years before it shows symptoms: Free and voluntary for residents

## Long-Term Health Study Launched

The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) has embarked on a 25-year research project in Abu Dhabi. This initiative aims to identify diseases in the UAE population before symptoms appear by analyzing genetic, biological, and lifestyle factors.

## Diverse Data Collection

The study, known as the Human Phenotype Project, will gather extensive data from participants, including medical history, lifestyle habits, advanced imaging, and various biological samples. The project's uniqueness lies in its diverse participant base, representing over 200 nationalities, which offers a broader scope than similar studies conducted in more homogeneous populations.

## Participation Details

Open to UAE residents aged 18 to 70, participation is both free and voluntary. Participants will receive personalized insights through a secure portal, which they can share with their healthcare providers. The study ensures privacy by separating personal information from research data.

## Ethical and Strategic Framework

Approved by multiple health and ethics committees, the study complies with UAE privacy laws. Dr. Fatima Al Kaabi highlights its potential to enhance precision medicine and preventive healthcare by aligning scientific evidence with the UAE's demographic diversity.

## Integration with MBZUAI's Research

This project is part of MBZUAI's Institute of Digital Public Health, which collaborates with various partners on health research. The institute also works on projects like MAGNET-AD, an AI system for early Alzheimer's detection, and BiMediX, a bilingual medical language model.

## About MBZUAI

Established in 2019, MBZUAI offers graduate and undergraduate programs, attracting students from over 70 countries. The university aims to develop an AI-driven health system tailored to the UAE's population while maintaining global applicability.
