## New Academic Year Begins

Gulf Medical University (GMU) has officially started its 2026–2027 academic year, welcoming students and faculty back to campus on August 31. The university is focusing on advancing health professions education and has seen a strong influx of students, highlighting the demand for its programs.

## Focus on Excellence

The university aims to enhance academic excellence, research, and innovation. Prof. Manda Venkatramana, Chancellor of GMU, emphasized the importance of preparing healthcare professionals to meet global and local community needs. Recent international recognitions have set a higher benchmark for the university's aspirations.

## International Recognition

In June 2026, GMU received institutional accreditation from the UK's Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, valid until 2031. The university also maintained its position in the global 301–400 band in the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026, with notable achievements in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

## Expanding Programs

GMU continues to expand its offerings, now operating seven colleges including the new Thumbay College of Management and AI in Healthcare. The university provides 45 accredited programs and has a diverse student body from over 111 nationalities.

## Comprehensive Health System

The university is part of a comprehensive academic health system, integrating education, healthcare, and research. It offers extensive clinical training with over 3,100 training beds across seven academic hospitals and partnerships with more than 75 international universities.
