Lebanon says 4 dead in strikes that Israel calls response to Hezbollah drones

## Incident Overview

On Sunday, Lebanon reported that four individuals lost their lives due to Israeli airstrikes. These strikes were a response to Hezbollah launching drones towards Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon. The Lebanese health ministry confirmed the fatalities occurred in Nabatieh al Fawqa and Arab Salim, with two women among the deceased.

## Casualties and Damage

In addition to the fatalities, 20 people, including women and children, sustained injuries in Nabatieh and Kfar Rumman. The strikes also caused significant damage, including the destruction of part of the Ghandour hospital in Nabatieh al-Fawqa, which had been non-operational for years. A historical building and several offices in Nabatieh city were also damaged.

## Israeli Military Actions

Israel's military stated the strikes were a reaction to a "blatant violation" by Hezbollah, who launched drones into Israel's self-declared "security zone." Prior to the strikes, Israel issued an evacuation notice for a building in Arab Salim, identified as a Hezbollah facility. However, no warnings were given for other targeted areas.

## Ongoing Tensions

The recent escalation is part of ongoing tensions between Israel and Lebanon, which have persisted despite a US-Iran memorandum in June aimed at reducing conflict. Israeli forces continue to operate within a "security zone" inside Lebanon, and recent strikes have resulted in civilian casualties and infrastructure damage. Direct negotiations between Israel and Lebanon have commenced, with further talks anticipated soon, although no specific date has been set.
