## Significant Growth in UAE's SME Sector

The UAE has witnessed a remarkable expansion in its small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector, with active licences increasing by over 900% since 2000. This surge is part of a broader national strategy to boost entrepreneurship and diversify the economy.

## Global Recognition for Entrepreneurship

For the fifth consecutive year, the UAE has been ranked first globally in entrepreneurship by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor for 2025/2026. The country also holds the second position worldwide for entrepreneurial finance and ease of access to it.

## Government Initiatives and Support

The UAE Council for Entrepreneurship, led by Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, has been instrumental in reviewing and implementing initiatives to enhance the SME ecosystem. The council's efforts include the national campaign "The Emirates: The Startup Capital of the World," launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in 2025.

## Impact of National Campaigns

The campaign has trained over 400 Emiratis and launched 41 government initiatives across various sectors. It has also generated significant government procurement and supported numerous business registrations and projects.

## Future Plans and International Collaboration

The council is working on a national entrepreneurship strategy in collaboration with the OECD, focusing on finance, innovation, and internationalisation. Additionally, the "Mobile Accelerators in Villages" initiative aims to provide better support for entrepreneurs in rural areas, addressing challenges like licensing and market access.
