UN aims to raise nearly $50 million for Nepal flood response

## UN Launches Emergency Appeal

The United Nations, along with its humanitarian partners, has initiated a flash appeal to raise $49.6 million for emergency relief efforts in Nepal following devastating floods. These floods, triggered by a glacier collapse on August 26, have resulted in over 1,250 fatalities and thousands of missing persons.

## Impact and Response

The disaster has affected over 84,000 individuals, equivalent to about 19,284 households, according to UN estimates. In response, a UNICEF and European Union-supported flight delivered 84 metric tonnes of essential supplies to Kathmandu. These include diarrhoea treatment kits, water tanks, hygiene kits, and winter clothing, aimed at aiding hundreds of thousands of people.

## Focus on Health and Infrastructure

Efforts are concentrated on preventing disease outbreaks and repairing critical infrastructure. UNICEF's representative in Nepal, Alice Akunga, emphasized the importance of these supplies in safeguarding the health and future of affected children and families.

## Ongoing Relief Efforts

Humanitarian partners have already begun distributing relief items to the most severely impacted regions, ensuring that immediate needs are met and communities are supported in their recovery.
