## Overview of Hafilat Smart Cards
Abu Dhabi's Hafilat smart card system offers a convenient way for residents and visitors to pay for public transport. The card allows users to tap on and off buses, with fares calculated based on travel distance.
## Types of Hafilat Cards
There are two main types of Hafilat cards: the Anonymous Card and the Personalised Card. The Anonymous Card costs Dh10 and is valid for 16 years, but does not support balance transfer unless linked to a UAE ID. The Personalised Card is free and offers additional benefits, such as subsidised rates for certain groups.
## Special Permits
Personalised Hafilat Cards can include annual permits for students, seniors, and people of determination. These permits offer unlimited free travel within Abu Dhabi and its suburbs. Students pay Dh500 annually, while seniors and people of determination receive permits for free.
## Public Transport Passes
The Hafilat system also offers 30-day and seven-day passes for unlimited travel within Abu Dhabi city and its suburbs. The 30-day pass costs Dh95, while the seven-day pass is priced at Dh35.
## Purchasing and Recharging
Hafilat cards can be purchased at major bus stations, ticket vending machines, and selected retail partners. Recharging is possible through the TAMM app, vending machines, and at bus stations.
## Using the Card
To use the Hafilat card, passengers must tap it on a reader when boarding and alighting a bus. This ensures the correct fare is deducted based on the distance traveled. Failure to tap out results in the maximum fare being charged on the next trip.
