Zulekha Hospital launches MICS programme with three successful minimally invasive heart bypass surgeries

## Launch of MICS Program

Zulekha Hospital has launched a new Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS) program, enhancing its cardiac care offerings. Under the leadership of Dr. Pradheep K. Rachakonda, the program has already seen success with four minimally invasive coronary artery bypass grafting procedures.

## Benefits of MICS

Unlike traditional heart surgeries that require opening the chest through the breastbone, MICS involves smaller incisions between the ribs. This approach can reduce surgical trauma, postoperative discomfort, and recovery time, allowing patients to start walking within a day or two post-surgery.

## Patient Success Stories

Three patients, aged 42, 65, and 68, have successfully undergone MICS at Zulekha Hospital. Each had significant blockages in their heart arteries. The surgeries were performed in July and August 2026, with all patients discharged in stable condition after satisfactory recoveries.

## Patient Selection and Team Approach

Dr. Pradheep emphasizes that MICS is not suitable for every patient. Factors such as heart condition, blockage location, and overall health are considered before opting for this method. The hospital's comprehensive cardiac services and a multidisciplinary team ensure thorough pre-surgery assessments and post-surgery care.

## Advanced Cardiac Care

Zulekha Hospital's Cath Lab is equipped with the latest imaging technology, supporting advanced cardiac procedures. The successful implementation of the MICS program marks a significant step in the hospital's commitment to providing advanced cardiac care in the UAE.
