## Launch Details
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched the EOS-05 satellite aboard the GSLV-F17 rocket. The launch took place from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota early on Friday morning. The 51.7-meter rocket lifted off at 2:55 a.m. after a countdown of 27.5 hours.
## Satellite Specifications
The EOS-05 satellite, weighing approximately 2,367 kg, was placed into a sub-geosynchronous transfer orbit. It will undergo several orbit-raising maneuvers before reaching its final operational position. This satellite is designed to provide advanced Earth imaging capabilities from a geosynchronous orbit.
## Mission Objectives
EOS-05 aims to enhance India's ability to monitor the Indian subcontinent and surrounding regions. It will provide data for various applications, including disaster management, agriculture, environmental assessment, and weather monitoring. The satellite's high-altitude position allows for repeated imaging of large geographical areas, improving information availability during emergencies.
## Technological Advancements
This mission marks the 19th flight of the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) and utilizes India's indigenously developed cryogenic upper stage. The successful deployment of EOS-05 represents a significant step forward in ISRO's Earth observation capabilities, following a previous unsuccessful mission in August 2021.
## Strategic Importance
With the addition of EOS-05, ISRO strengthens its Earth observation program, complementing existing satellites. This advancement enhances India's capacity for sustained space-based monitoring, providing crucial data for disaster response and national planning.
