## Strengthening Bilateral Ties

The United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka are exploring ways to enhance their partnership in tourism and hospitality. During a recent meeting in Dubai, UAE's Minister of Economy and Tourism, Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, and Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, discussed strategies to boost tourism flows and share expertise in hospitality services.

## Economic Growth Through Tourism

The discussions focused on expanding tourism and investment links, which are seen as crucial for sustainable economic growth in both countries. The UAE is keen to deepen its economic and tourism ties with Sri Lanka, reflecting the strong relationship between the two nations.

## Increasing Tourist Numbers

In the first five months of 2026, the UAE welcomed over 43,000 visitors from Sri Lanka. In 2025, Sri Lankan visitors to the UAE numbered over 153,000. The two countries currently have 107 direct flights per week, highlighting the robust travel connections.

## Future Plans

The UAE aims to become a leading global tourism destination by 2031, focusing on innovation and sustainability. The country is working on enhancing its tourism infrastructure, including ports and airports, to support this vision. Bin Touq emphasized the importance of mutual investments in tourism and hospitality, leveraging both countries' successful experiences to develop new projects.
