Kuwait to roll out smart home vehicle impoundment from September 6

## New Traffic Initiative

Starting September 6, Kuwait will implement a smart home vehicle impoundment system for traffic violations that require impoundment. This initiative, led by the Ministry of Interior, aims to modernize traffic penalties and enhance digital services.

## How It Works

When a traffic violation occurs, a smart device will be attached to the vehicle at the site of the infraction. The impoundment period begins at midnight, allowing the vehicle owner to move it to a designated home location. This system replaces the need to store vehicles at traffic department yards.

## Costs and Procedures

Motorists will incur a KD10 installation fee for the device and a daily impoundment fee of KD2. Vehicles currently impounded can also transition to this new system, enabling owners to serve the remaining impoundment time at home. Upon completion, drivers will receive a notification via Kuwait’s Sahel app and must visit a designated location to finalize the release.
